Network
Social networking and bookmarking sites are great sources to promote your online business. Start a Facebook page or Twitter account specifically for your business, and update it daily. Keep this separate from your personal account to preserve professionalism.
Social bookmarking sites like Stumbleupon, Digg, and Reddit allow visitors to your site to bookmark pages they like. In turn, they can share the content with other users without sharing files.
Backlinks
Consider backlinks the backbone of search engine optimization. Essentially, you can build links from other web pages to your website. If you run a social networking page, belong to niche forums, or write web articles, you can link them all back to your website.
Link other's sites to your own to increase traffic as well. You can find other sites with quality content dedicated to your niche and link them to your web pages. Be very selective when building links to other's sites.
Considerations
Be patient when working to increase website traffic. Search engines have to build a catalog of content and domains, which takes time. While you are waiting to boost your website visibility, work on building more content. You can never have enough quality content for your site.
